What is the Maximum?

Its not uncommon for users to ask us what is the maximum “blank” that SolidWorks can handle.  Here are just a few of the top “What is the maximum” inquiries we get in support. Enjoy…

Part:  The maximum size permitted in parts must be contained within a cube of 1000m (1km) sides whose center is on the part origin.  Arcs may not have a radius greater than 500m.

Assembly: The maximum size permitted in assemblies must be contained within a cube of 100,000m (100km) whose center of gravity is on the part origin.

Configurations:  There is no maximum number of part or assembly configurations allowed in SolidWorks.

Simulation: There is no hard coded maximum number of nodes or elements.

Keep in mind that even with no limits to the configuration or simulation maximums above in practice hardware resources usually determine the maximum size.  Therefore it is safer to say these are theoretical, not practical, maximums.  All of this and more maximums can be found in the SolidWorks Knowledge Base.
