Selecting through Transparent Faces

One challenge that can come up when working with transparent parts in an assembly is how to select through a transparent face.  There is a setting that controls the behavior of selection with transparent parts called “Enable selection through transparency” (shown below).  This setting is located under Tools, Options, System Options, Display/Selection and by default is enabled.  This means that when a user clicks on a transparent component it will select through to whatever geometry is behind it.

Despite how this options is toggled there is a trick to temporarily override this setting by holding down the Shift key while selecting transparent geometry. For example, if “Enable selection through transparency” is checked in the options, then Shift-selecting the face will pick the transparent face not the items behind it.
