When creating a route assembly using SolidWorks Routing it can be difficult to get fittings to the right orientation and position. One tool that simplifies this is the ‘Move Fitting with Triad’ command. This command allows the user to move the fitting to the exact position needed using the SolidWorks Triad. The ‘Move Fitting with Triad’ command is available in the right click menu when selecting a fitting.

This command allows the user to move the fitting in a number of different ways.  To drag the fitting along an axis the user can drag an arm of the triad. To rotate the fitting the user can drag a ring, and to move along a plane the user can drag a wing of the triad.

Most users don’t realize that only a small subset of the total available content is included by default when you install SolidWorks.  To gain access to the all the available content just click on the “SolidWorks Content” section of the Design Library tab in the Task Pane.  From there you can select a category of content and the bottom half of the Task Pane will display what is available.

In the image below I choose to download the additional ANSI Inch Weldment Profiles. When you hover your cursor over the thumbnail of your desired content a tool tip will inform you to “CTRL + click” to download.  You will then be prompted to pick a download location.

Once the download is complete just extract the files to the correct location.  Note: If you are unsure you can always reference the Tools, Options, System Options, File Locations section to figure out where to place the various content.

Below is a before and after comparison image.  As you can see there is quite a difference in the amount of ANSI Inch weldment profiles that are now available.

If you using SolidWorks Routing then you most likely have run into the need for a group of parts to become a single component of a Routing assembly.

To get started, build your sub-assembly with all of your parts, making sure that you have CPoint and RPoints at the necessary locations on the required parts.

Assembly Connection Points – Assembly Routing Points
At the sub-assembly level, add a CPoint by picking your component level CPoints and add an RPoints by picking your component level RPoints.
-Routing menu – Routing Tools – “Create Connection Point”
-Routing menu – Routing Tools – “Create Route Point”

Save the assembly, preferably in your Design Library – routing folder and start saving time by using this sub-assembly in all of your SolidWorks Routes
